Beauty | Skin Tight :: Three Essentials For Winter Skincare {And A Recipe!}

Written by: Sol

Hey, Fab girl, hey!

By the time this blog post goes up, I will be about 3 or so days away from turning 38-years-young!  Though I am blessed to see and be my age, one of the challenges of growing older is having to combat all of the changes that take place in my skin.  I can’t even begin to count how many trips to Sephora or coins I’ve spent in trying to find the ‘perfect’ serum, moisturizer and cleanser, only to walk away ashy and defeated and left with a dud to add to my ‘Product Graveyard’ that lives under my bathroom sink.

I ain’t gonna lie… This was legit my face after I typed that last sentence…

blanche

Anywho, in order for me to obtain and maintain fresh, impeccably young and acne-free skin, without breaking the bank, I had to take it back to ‘Beauty Basics 101.’  What I mean is I had to stop looking just to commercial products to solve my issues and venture back to some ol’ skool remedies. And what did I find? The Lemon-Sugar Facial Scrub!

This remedy was introduced to me by one of my closest sista-friends {Hey Shanta, girl!} who is a licensed esthetician.  She ALWAYS has the glow-up on her skin, so I asked ‘the ‘secret and thus, we’re here. This facial {and legs, too, girl!} scrub thoroughly cleanses and exfoliates your skin, allowing you to get rid of dead cells and stop black heads.  Y’all, when I tell you that this has become the Holy Grail of my skincare regimen, I MEAN IT!

I swear this is what my skin does when that scrub hits it:

dance

Because of the abrasiveness of the lemon and sugar, I don’t recommend using this everyday, but adding this to your skincare regimen twice a week will get your skin ALL the way right!

To make this homemade scrub, you’ll need:

  • 3 spoonfuls of white sugar
  • 1/2 lemon’s juice
  • 3 spoonfuls of olive oil
All you do is squeeze the juice from the 1/2 lemon, add the sugar and stir together {If the ingredients still appear a little ‘dry’, just add a teaspoon of warm water to the mix…that’ll loosen things up!}.  Begin to add the spoonfuls of olive oil slowly and keep stirring until everything is mixed well.  The beauty of this recipe is that you can tweak it to your liking any way you want! You can switch the lemon juice for a lime, add honey or use brown sugar.. The possibilities are endless! In the end, it’s just about finding the one that works for you.

While using a naturally-based exfoliation scrub, I knew that I wanted to keep my cleansing products the same (naturally based), therefore I knew that using just any ol’, over-the-counter, ‘Buy me because I’m trending on Youtube‘ cleanser just wouldn’t do.  After doing much research, I decided to test out some products by online beauty master Sereniti Bath Body & You and when I tell you I fell in love with her products, I mean, I fell in love …HARD!
Her DETOX SOAP BAR W/ACTIVATED CHARCOAL and LUXURY FACIAL TONER from her facial care line are mainstays in my skincare regimen.  I use the soap on a daily basis and the toner about 3 times a week and since starting I have noticed a huge difference in the cleanliness, softness and toning of my skin.  Not to mention, her prices are very affordable and shipping game is ON POINT!
Trust when I say – if you ain’t on, GET ON!
