bykStyle | From Work To WERK : 5 Looks That Are 9-5 Chic… And Beyond!

Written by: Sol

Hey girl hey!

So if you haven’t realized it yet, it’s May 4th.

Other than an influx of N’Sync memes and “May the Fourth Be With You” posts that are floating around on the internet, it’s also the eve of one of the most widely recognized, ALWAYS fun, Mexican celebrations Cinco De Mayo! As if this holiday yielding drink specials, extended happy hours, festive dishes and sweet treats isn’t enough; this year, the holiday falls on a Friday… #DrinksForEveryone

Of course, the great thing about this holiday falling on a Friday is that most of us won’t have to worry about work the next morning, however, the challenge is that with it being on a Friday, that means most people will be heading to the festivities directly from work. Now, I’m sure you wouldn’t mind heading to the bar in your 3-piece pantsuit that you’ve been walking around the office in ALL day, HOWEVER, here are five style ideas that (with a little tweaking!) can take you from desk-to-date in seconds and have you ready to go just in time for “Shot-o-clock”!

Look 1: The Wrap Dress

The best place to start is with a wardrobe essential that EVERY woman should have in her closet – the wrap dress!

A wrap dress is probably one of the most versatile pieces that a woman can own. These dresses can be worn anywhere and styled a million different ways! For this particular look, Kiki added a little “edge” to the dress by pairing it with an olive green, military-style vest. This vest not only adds a little pizazz to the look, but it breaks up the stripes a bit, bringing a little dimension to the piece. Adding a pop of color {either in accessories or lips} a cute sandal and some hoop earrings will have you ready for your “After 5 Slay” in no time!

Look 2: The Graphic Tee

In case you didn’t know, I love, Love, LOVE a good graphic tee! Not only are they expressive and fun, they’re also super comfy! Now I realize that everyone doesn’t have the ability to wear graphic tees to the office, however if you plan your look accordingly, tees can effortlessly be incorporated in your after work wear!

Most tees are very soft and wrinkle-resistant, so if you are unable to wear them to the office, just pack your tee away in a bag and wear a cute skirt or print pant for the workday.  That way when the clock strikes 5, all you have to do is make a mad dash to the restroom to switch out your top, accessories and lippie color and VOILA – You’re transformed!

Look 3: The Chino Pant

I know what you’re thinking: Chinos are “old lady pants”, right?  Let me change your life – They’re not.

The greatest thing about chinos is that they are SUPER versatile. These pants can be worn dressed up or down and typically come in an array of colors and styles that can “cutesy” up your look, with little to no effort! In this look, Kiki paired a cotton top and cropped jacket with these yellow chino pants. Because of the awesomeness of the color and style of this pant, she was able to add a cute statement necklace and leopard flats, making the look POP! For an “After 5 Slay”, just remove the blazer and roll out!

Look 4: The Skater Dress

I’ma give you two forever reasons why skater dresses stay in my wardrobe – Comfort and Cuteness!

I’m not even sure if they’re all the rave they once were, but for me, I LIVE for a cute skater! Not only are they cute and comfortable, but they are SUPER easy to style! Much like this look,  you can wear it as is OR toss on a light cardigan or crop jacket and wear them with flats or sandals for the workday. Once the day ends, you can switch out the flats for a cute pair of wedges or a dope pair of metallic sneakers, if that’s your thing! Needless to say, the possibilities are ENDLESS!

Look 5: The Skater Skirt

Of course we couldn’t shout out the skater dress and not show love to the skater skirt!

This is another #ForeverStaple in my wardrobe, as skater skirts are great for adding a bit of fun and pizzazz to a look. They are extremely versatile and can even be worn to the office! To pull this off, gravitate towards “longer” skirts with print or texture, much like the one that Kiki is rocking here. Pair it with a nice top, a cute cardigan or blazer and pair of booties or flats. At quitting time, lose the cardi and/or blazer and get ready to groove the night away!

So there you have it – our top 5 looks that can take you from desk-to-date OR have you Cinco De Mayo ready in no time! So tell us…

  1. Girl look 5 was IT! I am always so timid when it comes to mixing things up but you pulled it off effortlessly. To answer your question my lifestyle consists of scrubs BUT on the off chance I have a casual Friday I love a good skinny jean and a white cotton tee (think Target or VS) I like the simplicity and the ability to dress it up with cute shoes and accessories that pop. Awesome read

    1. Thanks, love!!

Don’t be shy! Half the fun with mixing prints is discovering matches that you wouldn’t ordinary pair! Start small, with accessories or shoes, and then take it from there!

And I’m with you on the skinny and tee… I’m all about simplistic style with a POP!

      Thanks for reading! ❤

  2. I have to agree with Ashley..when I worked in the office the wrap dress was my go to. Now you can find me in a graphic tee and leggings from my home office. Love all your looks!
