Biz Chat | The Good, The Bad, and The WTF: 4 Must-Do’s To Being A Successful G-Boss

Written by: Sol

First of all, I can’t EVEN believe that we’ve reached the third installment of our Biz Chat series for our biz birthday month! Where did the time go? I guess it’s true – time *does* fly when you’re having fun!

In this series, we’ve shared our journey of how we came to be, why we do what we do, and who we do it for. That’s why this week it’s only right we end things with real… Like, the trill real!

As you should know by now, being a G-boss is not an easy feat, however, it’s one of the most rewarding experiences you will ever encounter. If you’re considering a walk on this path (or even if you’re already in the thick of the struggle!) here are 4 things you MUST learn if you want to succeed in this thing!

Must-Do #1: Your journey is your own.

So I figured we’d start here, since this is where most people get caught up.

On this journey, you’ll encounter a lot of people who will try to change your mind and path when it comes to your dream. From the family and friends who will laugh at your ideas to the  “guru” who will tell you that you’re doing it all wrong, e’rybody and their mama is going to have an opinion about your business.

During these times, you have to hold fast to the fact that this journey is yours and yours alone. Yeah, you may reach out to others for advice and may even lean on others for support, but in the end, this vision is all yours. You have to protect it and be guided by your own heart and mind to wherever you want to go. It’s going to be hard, and you may even hurt a few feelings in the process, but trust when I say – it’ll be worth it!

Must-Do#2: You will NEVER have all the answers, Sway!

As a boss, it’s easy to get caught up in finding answers and solutions. Now don’t get me wrong – some things are just cut and dry. However, most cases you will find yourself stumped and lost in what you should do. In those moments, don’t stress or think about it too hard… Just whisper these two little words: “It’s okay.”

I learned early on that this  journey yields a lot of confusion…A lot! And it used to bother me when what seemed like the simplest scenarios would be the hardest to solve. But now? I don’t even worry about it because I know that whether I take the straight and narrow or go off the beaten path, I will always be led to the places that I am meant to go.

Must-Do #3: B**ch, Get Your Tribe Right.

I know  you’ve probably heard the saying “Your vibe attracts your tribe” a million times, typically referred to friendships. Well, the same holds true in business because, honestly, GOOD business is built on good relationships.

I’ve learned that in order for you to be successful, you have to surround yourself with like-minded people who are goal oriented and just as determined (if not more!) than you are. There’s a magic that happens when you join forces and build something genuine and great from that connection. {Hence, the force behind byKikiSol…Duh!}

A MAJOR key to remember in this is that the same level of support that you expect from them, you have to be willing to offer in return. Nobody wants to be in a one-sided relationship. You’d be surprised what what could come out of a simple post share or showing up to an event. Let your people know that you support and respect them and their craft!

Lauryn said it best, “Who do I have to be to gain some reciprocity?”

 Must-Do #4: Don’t Compete… Empower!

Comparing – we all do it. Whether it’s comparing ourselves to others or comparing others to others, comparison is a normal in human nature. The danger comes when we begin to compare ourselves in judgement, not observation. This is very true in business because it’s so easy to get caught up in the facade of our competitors. Between the great marketing strategies, perfect Instagram feeds and growing platform numbers, it’s natural to wonder what they are doing and how they are doing it. And worse, how come it’s not happening for me?

But hear this – if you focus on YOUR vision and not the competition, what they have going on will become an afterthought. I can’t worry about what the next coach or blogger is doing or what their next move is because I am knee deep in figuring out my own! If you want to take a peak at the competition from time to time to check in and get some insight on what’s happening in your industry, that’s understood. But stalking, lurking and watching their every move is a no-no!

If you don’t remember anything else from this blog post, take this with you – a unicorn doesn’t stand around and worry about what other unicorns think of it … it just sparkles! So get out there and SPARKLE, dammit!

I don’t care how you do it or where you go, there’s no easy road to success. But if you keep these “must do’s” at the forefront and stay focused and persistent, your hard work will surely pay off! Now I want to know YOUR thoughts, so tell me…

Until the next time, live F.A.B with no regrets!

  1. I love #3. I never thought to put it in a business perspective like you did. Naturally, I think most refer to use it with relationships with family and friends, but using it in business relationships just empowers you even more.

  2. I absolutely love all of these must-do tips, but especially empowering one another instead of competing. We should always make room at the table and I think that ties in with your awesome saying about your vibe attracting your tribe. This has been one of my favorite posts thus far and I think it would benefit EVERYONE to read it!

    1. Hi Nikki!

Yes – we are adamant about the importance of celebrating your tribe, simply because our girls empower and inspire us to be greater and walk in that greatness! That’s what being friends is all about!
